“Liberals and Conservatives tied in new poll, NDP behind” (CP24)

Chris Herhalt (CP24):

The Liberals and Conservatives are in a dead heat, with the NDP only three points behind, according to a new poll released Friday.

The Grits and the Tories enjoy 31 per cent support each, with the NDP at 28 per cent, a poll conducted by Forum Research from Sept. 21 to Sept. 23.

While still statistically within the margin of error, it’s the first poll conducted by Forum to put the NDP in third place since early June.

“It may be that the NDP have had their day in the sun, and it’s time for a new leader in this incredibly tight race,” Forum Research president Lorne Bozinoff said in a press release.

Translated into seats, the poll says the Conservatives would win a slim majority of 125 seats, while the Liberals would win 107 seats and the NDP would secure 104 seats.

The poll suggests the Liberals are still leading in Ontario and the Maritimes, while the NDP leads in Quebec and B.C. The Conservatives appear ahead in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
